Painting My Life in Northwest Ohio
Life is different out in the country. Our home is smack dab in the middle of fields. This year it was soybeans, as it has been for about the last four years. I prefer corn. It’s like being on an island in a sea of cornstalks. Plus, it seems like there are fewer mosquitoes when the corn is planted. It’s fall and right now I can hear the combines running and see the cloud of grain rising behind them as they collect their crop. You really notice the seasons out here.
My current project is The Harvest, so the season is really inspiring my work. I’m sticking with encaustic for this series. I’ve really grown to love the process, the layers, how the paint and wax react to heat and air as I fuse the work. Soon I will have some work to share, but for now you can join me and experience encaustic for yourself by taking a live class at Owens Center for the Fine & Performing Arts in Perrysburg.
